About: Lemon Essential Oil; Quadruple Threat!

Lemon essential oil (Citrus limon) is one of the top essential oils because it has many uses. Lemon essential oil is derived from the peel of fresh lemons. There are two different processes called steam extraction and cold-pressing. Lemon oil can be diluted and applied topically to your skin, diffused, or inhaled.

There are several health benefits to using lemon essential oils:

1. Antibacterial: lemon has natural antibacterial properties. So, while you are trying to protect your home from germs and looking for a surface disinfectant, lemon oils can be a good alternative to harsh chemicals.

2. Antiseptic: I wouldn't necessarily add it to an open wound - ouch! However, lemon has natural antiseptic properties. It works well for issues like acne and it has when lemon juice is diluted with water you can use it as a mouthwash for mouth sores.

3. Antifungal:  Lemon essential oil has powerful antifungal properties. Studies have reviewed lemon essential oil and the effect against athlete's foot, thrush, and yeast infections when applied topically. It is reported to be safe for pregnant women and babies over 3 months old.

4. Antioxidant: Lemon essential oil has properties that may brighten and preserve your skin tone. However, use caution, like most citrus oils, lemon oil can cause skin irritation or you can experience sensitivity when exposed to the sun. It is recommended to avoid direct sunlight when using citrus essential oils.

Some people swear by lemon essential oils to help fight the common cold, helping with depression or anxiety, easing mornings sickness, and acting as a pain reliever.

As always, you have to properly dilute any essential oil before applying topically. A good quality essential oil will include topical directions and other warnings to prevent any issues while using. A carrier oil is usually recommended, this includes oils like sweet almond oil, hemp oil, or jojoba oil. Lastly, the lemon essential oil is for topical use, do not ingest it!
