Where to Apply Essential Oils

Where to Apply Essential Oils

One question I often get is where to apply essential oils. I was skeptical at first when I learned to add the oils to my feet, temples, or wrists. How could a drop of essential oil mixed with a "carrier" oil aid in relief for various ailments?

It is important to understand how an essential oil compares to the actual herb or plant it is derived from. For example, one drop of peppermint essential oil has the medicinal compounds of about 50 to 70 cups of peppermint tea. I don't know about you, but I could not imagine drinking that much tea to help with a headache or relieve pain.

You can learn more about essential oils from one of our past blogs. Do essential oils really work?

To help you understand where to place these oils to aid in various ailments, such as, combating stress, reducing tension, reducing cold or flu length, I put together a series of lists for you. I bucketed them by category or ailment. Here are a few:

STRESS

  • Wrists
  • Behind Ears
  • Temples

You can find out cheat sheet here. Refer to this cheat sheet when using your favorite oils. These are only suggested application areas and we always recommend discussing any natural remedies with your doctor or healthcare professional.

Always use a "carrier" oil with your essential oils because of their strength. The dilution recommendation is usually 2 to 3 drops of essential oil to a teaspoon of a "carrier" oil, such as olive, grapeseed, jojoba, sweet almond, or hemp oil. Different carrier oils are used for different ailments as well, but that's a whole different blog post.

As always, these statements have not been approved by the FDA. The information provided or product sold is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. People with health concerns should discuss them with a doctor. Women who are pregnant or nursing should not use essential oils unless directed to do so by a healthcare professional.
